I just got to send the best f*** you LinkedIn message to an employer that wanted me to participate in their "diversity hiring event". Laid out the gendered pay discrimination stories I know. Told them to focus on retaining employees from groups underrepresented in tech instead.

I've had recruiters from this company contact me before, but it was always for a specific job. I would politely tell them no, I have my own consulting company, and I'm not interested.

This recruiter buttered me up with "how impressive" my background was & how they're looking for "smart people." They're hiring into several different positions in a "special event". They don't want my background specifically, they want any "smart person" who increases diversity.

No thank you. Even if I was looking, I have no desire to be shown off like cattle to hiring managers to make their group "more diverse". Come to people from groups underrepresented in tech with a specific role that's challenging, with a group that's already inclusive.

Also, as a non-binary person, I have no idea whether their "diversity hiring event" is inclusive of all gender diversity. Last I heard, it was focused on women and men of color. No way am I gonna walk into that with my white trans self sporting a beard.
