Linus Torvalds moves the annual Linux kernel core developers invite-only conference from Vancouver, Canada to Edinburgh, UK. He got confused about which conference (OSS Europe vs OSS North America) the Maintainers Summit was going to be at and had a "family vacation" conflict.https://twitter.com/danvet/status/1037784154363109377 …

I think it's worrisome for the future of the Linux kernel that one person has so much authority that a maintainers' conference couldn't work without him. What happens when Linus retires or dies before he can think about retiring?

There's a whole lot of privilege in saying, "Hah, j/k go to the UK instead of Canada!" It's not just the cost of a last minute flight. If you need a visa to Europe, that can't be done in a week. ...nevermind, the kernel maintainers are mostly cis white Americans or Europeans.

Fun fact: Linus uses the time before or after Linux Foundation events to go scuba diving. I wonder whether this is a "family trip" or Linus doesn't want to reschedule his sightseeing with the fishes.
