    Found a video (not nice) from a concert on my phone: Wrong answer bc if one doesn't know her, they'd get scared. First time I went to her concert, I had no idea who she was, and got disturbed.. for 15 mins. Was the only person wearing a suit in a sea of goth aesthetic rockers.

    The intuition is well founded and has been used by Baldi and others since the 80s in different studies. For example -- from Goodfellow et al.'s, DL book (trying to explain why minima are rare, while saddle points far more common as dimensionality grows)

    Does anyone know any newer works on ML that use this or some variant of this idea? "Learning from Mistakes" by Dante Chialvo and Per Bak I have found this paper fascinating for years -- but never explored it technically.

    Okay, I do like "Speak, Memory" too, as well his letters to Vera. I particularly like that in his private life, he was the exact opposite of the troubled degenerates he wrote about. :) But I mostly love him for occasional paragraphs, like this one:

    Recently I moved and some friends helped me pack my books (I have an unholy number). One of them took this one out, and innocently said "this must be horror." I found the comment too bizarre to react to. Thinking about it now, and laughing in the dark, I see where it came from.

    Reservoirs learn to learn: As contrasted to randomly wired liquid state machines, what benefit does tuning reservoir parameters (across relevant learning tasks) afford? Quite a bit. Unsurprising, but not having to train linear readouts is interesting.
