How does “release candidate” == “ready for production”? in my book an RC is ready for widespread testing, not production use.

An RC represents literally a possible release. Assuming we have no bugs (which I think some people already found one in this case) it would be the same as 3.0.0. For me personally it means I’d try it in my staging environments (following the one->few->many pattern)
