@arungupta announces a program to give @awscloud credits to projects meeting 3 criteria: 1) open source 2) preferably backed by a non-profit foundation 3) and preferably under an OSI-approved open source license. That word “preferably” is potentially troubling @AllThingsOpen

There are certain open source projects that use non-OSI license, yet are fully open sourced. Want to make sure the program is inclusive!

Do you have a concrete example of a “fully open source” project using a “non-OSI approved license”?

We mean that there are projects under licenses that follow the spirit of the OSD but are not OSS / don't have their licenses OSI approved. For instance, open data projects under @Linux Foundation's CDLA.

Probably worth clarifying this further (as I know you don't mean to muddy the definition of open source).

If we're referring to projects under the LF - then certainly this program really isn't for them - is it?. Those projects have somewhat risen to a level of having visibility.

From my viewpoint, 501(c)(3) type organizations are more of the intended recipient of these credits, along with perhaps independent maintainers that could use assistance with infrastructure. That said, there are some 501(c)(6)s like Ruby Together that aren't like Linux Foundation

So @awscloud should be able to work with @opencollect to solve that issue and open this up to a larger audience. Starting a foundation is a LOT of work and if you can do it, these credits probably are a nice-to-have vs must-have.
