Tip: Break tasks you procrastinate into smaller, low-energy ones. It helps. We procrastinate if a task is... * Boring * Frustrating * Difficult * Ambiguous / unstructured * Lacks personal meaning * Lacks reward (e.g isn't fun) Knowing why helps. h/t research by

V8 hits its long-awaited v8.0, now with optional chaining, nullish coalescing, faster higher-order builtins — oh and 40% less memory use thanks to pointer compression, no big deal. h8rs gonna h8, V8ers gonna V8 🔥🔥🔥

JavaScript is now equipped with a new regular expression enhancement! shows how it can be used for finding positions of matched groups. (This feature is available starting from V8 v7.9 behind a --harmony-regexp-match-indices flag.)

Tip: now supports redeclaring let and class statements in Console! 🎉 Better for prototyping. Doing this outside Console still rightly throws an error. by has more info

The Console now supports redeclarations of let and class statements. The inability to redeclare was a common annoyance for web developers who use the Console to experiment with new JavaScript code.

typeof null === "object" Plausible reasons: - ECMAScript specification defines null as the primitive value that represents the intentional absence of any object value - Initially, objects values type tag was 000, like the NULL pointer in C, giving the same type tag

Huh – I just came across JavaScript Unicode Property escapes. 🙈 That's very useful! More info:

Examples for Property unicode escapes: /^\p{Math_Symbol}+$/u.test('⁼') // true, /^\p{Script=Greek}+$/u.test('μ') // true, /^\p{Emoji}+$/u.test('🙈') // true – also showing browser support Firefox and Edge are not supporting but there is a babel support

TIP: Keep in mind that JavaScript has wrapper objects and primitives values. Wrapper objects are used under the hood when you call methods on a primitive value (e.g. str.toUpperCase()).

We need to talk about benchmarks in the JavaScript community. A typical benchmark used to compare libraries is 95% the thing being tested, 5% app code. The app code is rarely more than a dozen of functions in a couple of files.

This is why i don't trust frameworks claiming to be fast b/c they score 👍 benchmarks. This is React in concurrent mode, facing an impossible(!) amount of load (2000 state-connected comps getting re-rendered with fresh props 60 frames/sec). The scheduler makes that a stable 60fps

If you are trying to improve Web performance, don't put a bunch of <link rel=preload> tags for scripts before <meta charset=utf-8>. Pushing <meta charset=utf-8> beyond the first 1024 bytes is worse than not having <link rel=preload>s for scripts.

Things to look for in a code review: Code is... - Well designed - Readable by others - Doing what the author intended - No more complex than needed - Not degrading system code health - Commented with the why vs. what - Appropriately tested - Sufficiently documented

tips🧙‍♂️🧙‍♀️: BigInt is the 7th primitive type in ES10! BigInt is an arbitrary-precision integer. What this means is that variables can now represent 2⁵³ numbers.
