Developer Report!
This year we are also proud to launch http://developerreport.com -- showcasing the data behind the report.
We analyzed 250m code commits and 300+ people contributed to this year's report.
Let's dig in👇
5) gratefulness: it's a choice to be grateful about the good and the bad.
the bad means lessons, the good validates we're on the right track.
practicing gratefulness means we are more present surroundings, which in turn increases trust (in ourselves and with others).
4) authenticity: people who trust themselves are more confident and thus able to give back more to others
not surprisingly, they are also happier. being the most "ourselves" we can possibly be makes a happier, better world.
fostering this safe space is everyone's responsibility
3) empathy: being respectful and understanding of others' realities means I bring less of my own bias and expectations into other's stories.
we're all doing the best we can with the resources we've been given.
1) open-mindedness: always excited to be proven wrong and curious to explore new concepts in depth.
2) honesty: praise when deserved, constructively criticize when there's opportunities for improvement. feedback always true, respectful, and actionable.

in a decentralized world, any local community (even digitally) should be able to provision their shared needs in a pluralistic and mutualist way
kudos culture is so simple, most underestimate its value.
- it reinforces the type of actions people like to see
- it increases retention bc people feel valued by others
- it forces people to actively think about what they like about their team + their progress
a good dev knows when a team doesn't actually need a dev.
and tells them.
no-code/low-code tools can do so much these days, custom code is not always needed.
-- here's a great resource by
however, some ideas:
- set aside 1min for kudos writing at the end of calls
- kudos team channel
- kudos monthly rewards
- company newsletter kudos highlighting people's good work
- the more descriptive the kudos, the better
- rewarding those who take the time to kudos as well!
