If we are already in a recession (we aren't quite there BTW), then we should be coming out of it around September. Thus, if you are a "recession now" candidate, then you must start saying that things are about to get much better. Well played! 🤔

Math is scary…

The RCG "math based" AZ budget: 1) There's $ to immediately trigger the 2.5% flat tax. 2) Recession by '24 = $1.5B needed in rainy day fund. 3) Tax cut beyond 2.5% flat will lose AZ $. 4) Can't use GF to fund more K12, add 4/10ths cent sales tax and be done with it. 5) Adjourn.

5 min calc: Using #s for AZ's GDP, population, employment, avg work week, tax rates, & mail in votes for the '20 election, at 4 hours in line the lost economic activity totals $600M. This equals $20M in lost tax collections. The #s assume everybody will still vote.

Monday ADHD thoughts that now I’m obsessed with… What is the economic impact of ending mail in voting in Arizona? How much will it cost the Arizona of people have to choose to take sick time on order to stand in a 4-5 hour line to vote? They won’t have that sick time later

ASU home game #236 (and last). RETIRING in the Spring after 37 years😊. What a blessing to work my whole career at ASU. Thanks to all the former student workers who traveled back to help paint. See ya at the stadium one last time tomorrow?

Read both op ed. Not everyone needs 4yr college. Ok. But those local market construction, plumber, electrician, etc jobs exist because of the base sector jobs that indeed require higher level education. Can work on both. If can’t walk & chew gum at the same time then take a seat.

The AEA opposes a sales tax for ed. The avg family spends $1,000/yr on state sales taxes. If the xtra utility costs reach $1,200/yr it’s the same as raising the state sales tax rate to 11.7%. If up by only half, it’s still equiv to a tax rate of 8.7%. AEA is all politics, no ed.
