I get asked how to extract facial features (action units, gaze) from face videos but most solutions involve some technical setup (Docker, SDKs). Now, this Colab notebook extracts them from any Youtube video and you don't need to install a single thing on your laptop.

Object-oriented images cause boundary extension — but scene-oriented images cause boundary contraction. This happens even when participants are copying an image right in front of them This paper by & looks amazing!

People who have math anxiety avoid difficult math problems by discounting the reward from solving them, and overestimating the cognitive effort, and this bias was specific to math. A pre-registered study, "Calculated avoidance" led by Kyoung Whan Choe

Now on w/ @eheatherhall and : Representations of memory content during recall show key differences from encoding in granularity of detail & spatial distribution. Peak encoding & recall similarity is anterior to encoding peaks

Also, as with SFN: anyone looking for PhD or postdoc positions studying memory representations and cognitive aging in realistic situations? My new lab is recruiting, and I’d love to meet up and talk at the conference.

    5. Recent attempts to model core physics didn't have explicit objects and. ADEPT outperforms such models, generalizes better, and is closer to human judgements.

New preprint! On how we can leverage naturalistic stimuli - known for evoking strong shared responses - to get at individual differences as well. Part review, part "think piece", plus some empirical results thrown in. Feedback welcome
