acceptable to whom? Slavery was only ever acceptable to people who didn't suffer from it, and could turn their eyes away from it. What decent person, in that time, could go watch a slave being whipped for seeking freedom and think "This seems like a fair and moral situation." ?

Exactly which is wht we shouldnt be praising ppl like that. We should learn about them but not praise them. If you don't want to forget history then make memorial for the slaves he sold 2 remember the fact that they were humans who were not only sold but raped, killed, & abused

Your wish for learn history from a statue matters far less than the people who have to see it and know that a man who took people as slaves is given a special place in their city. This isn't about you. This is a historical moment in itself, learn from that.
