Research Shows Access to Legal Abortion Improves Women’s Lives

We find ~28% of the estimated 440,000 US women uninsured during the first year postpartum (123,000 new mothers annually) would likely be newly eligible for Medicaid/CHIP if pregnancy-related coverage were extended for 12 months postpartum. 5/7

For those unable to get an abortion, evidence shows continuing an unwanted pregnancy will lead to more pregnancy-related deaths, adverse mental and physical health outcomes, and adverse social and economic outcomes for themselves and their families
