LyftUber prices have gone up 92% - but drivers pay not so much. The business model has to shift to ensure drivers are paid fairly.

I wrote about what found when it surveyed drivers: the health-care stipend offered to workers under Prop 22 is woefully inadequate

If you saw this and were scratching your head, rest assured Uber in the UK has no ground to stand on asking other companies to follow the law. They aren’t following it themselves. Not paying for 40% of drivers time even after Supreme Court ruling. SMDH.

Why is , & other tech companies "used their wealth to reshape labor law in their sole interest." It "was greedy, it tried … to take away all rights of workers in this sector."

Why did the judge overturn prop 22? Greed. We can talk about the law, but the bottom line is that Americans believe you put in an hours work you should get an honest hours pay. That's why we're fighting for full labor rights.

Hiltzik: CA judge ruling trashes Prop. 22 Me: “The proposition was greedy, it tried to cement the companies’ business model and to take away all rights of workers in this sector. We’ve never seen an initiative try to do what this initiative tried to do.”

The LyftUber spin is now being reported as news. For the past 8 months passengers have seen costs of rides double and triple - but now the spin is that because of a judge’s ruling on Friday that we’re due basic labor rights costs will increase 10-20%. /1

  10. Prop 22, that gross multi multimillion dollar lie to give Uber and Lyft and all app companies license to degrade, humiliate, underpay, and dehumanize workers, to deny basic needs, and also it turns out tonight illegal.

BAM! LyftUber do it again. Try to write their own unconstitutional laws only to have them struck down by the courts! This prop22 was so wrong in so many ways. We will fight till we win!

Last summer/fall, I was unemployed and spent a bunch of time volunteering with and text banking and learning their stories. It was an amazing experience despite Prop 22 passing. I'm SOOO proud of the work they continued to do and this new success!

And in January we published a detailed, evidence-packed statement in collaboration with against “indie work” front groups pushing Prop 22 in CO, WA, IL, NY (recently beaten), and MA (flaring up) Our statement still stands:

Be clear on what set the stage for this victory over a law that belongs among most infamous legal attacks on working people of color. The no-gimmick union organizing work of in general & its massive fight vs Prop 22 specifically. Along with those in solidarity.

The lies of Prop22 are being brilliantly exposed. New report shows only 10% of drivers are receiving health stipends, while 29% receive Medi-cal & get no stipend at all. Prop22 continues driver poverty. /1

New Research Alert-from Policy Link, Brian Dolber, & — on the so-called “benefits” of Prop 22. Spoiler: most drivers are not getting healthcare “stipends” and taxpayers are picking up the tabs. Parasitical Platforms!
