Sad that the APT-P didn't amount to a more successful venture; was late home for tea a time or two because I'd tarried to see the late afternoon return to Glasgow... (Chelmscote, Leighton Buzzard, October 1984)

  3. They also knew exactly what they were doing with the BR symbol on the APT powercars...

  4. Never realised that the red and white stripes were so thick on the APT; tilting through Wolverton, March 1984

Another later (almost privatisation) version of the crest, note the four motifs on the shield are different (i.e. simplified, or do I mean dumbed down?)

A comparison of the old Pullman logo and the design that Newell & Sorrell devised in 1988 for the era of the swallow

Now here's a train (); a promotional service to herald the start of the Tees Tyne Pullman in September 1985 (guessing the Pullman started in May or October 1985?) Check out the inappropriate sticker on the front end!

That is so sloppy of me, I read it in the blurb and perpetuated the nonsense; thank you for keeping me on the straight and narrow!

A rather lovely study of Mark 3B 11084 William Roscoe and a BRUTE at Liverpool Lime Street 'sometime in 1986'; you will note the odd coach sticker and the fact that the coat of arms still has a bit of life (i.e. red) in it which all but faded in many cases

It should perhaps be said that this arrangement was not conducive to names with descenders such as 'George' (11089 George Stubbs), where the letters are cramped to say the least...

11094 Arnold Bennett (with same low positioned legend on the red stripe)

11092 Ernest Rutherford, showing the odd positioning of the 80mm x-height lettering (75mm from the top and 25mm from the bottom = 180mm depth in total) and, ne assumes, the correct 100mm gap between the red stripe and the coat of arms

11080 (unnamed) at Manchester Piccadilly, September 1986; I'd say the Pullman coat of arms looks lower than th promo photos... (HT for finding this at )
