Sometimes you want to talk, and sometimes you just ... don't. Check out these early concepts that could help control unwanted attention on Twitter. Feedback, especially at this beginning stage, is invited (and wanted)! 🧵pic.twitter.com/6SpzqiwFlL

Unmention yourself I want to make it easier to untag yourself from a Tweet or conversation you don't want to be involved in. Just pick “Unmention yourself from this conversation” from the more info menu and the link to your profile will be removed.pic.twitter.com/nfHIyReE9f

Shows where you can find the "unmention yourself" feature in the more info menu. Shows "you've unmentioned yourself" notification.

Notifications Going further, if someone you don’t follow @ mentions you, you’ll get a special notification. If you unmention yourself from there, the Tweet author will not be able to mention you again.pic.twitter.com/RTFBEnkPFf

Shows notification "You've been mentioned in this Tweet." Shows "you've unmentioned yourself" notification.

Settings You can also restrict certain accounts from mentioning you. Need some peace and quiet? Keep EVERYONE from mentioning you for 1 day, 3 days, or 7 days.pic.twitter.com/d50JIcsPok

Shows mention settings. Choose "everyone", "people you follow", or "custom". You can also pause mentions and restrict accounts from mentioning you.

Getting a little TOO much attention? I want to make it easier to address that in 3 ways. 1️⃣ Get notified when you’re getting a lot of mentions 2️⃣ Review those Tweets 3️⃣ Change settings to stop the situation from escalating furtherpic.twitter.com/CL43INsMky

Notification "you've been mentioned in 203 Tweets." From there, review tweets, change mention settings, or pause mentions.

If (finally) we're getting serious about this you should just hire @triketora and implement @blockpartyapp_ (plus all the other ideas she no doubt has but can't do because of a limited API) at an application level

Second this Block party app has all the filters I need and even mobile Twitter never shows me accounts I like or mentions I get. This is great work BUT this is the second time I have seen Twitter copy work

Interesting! A couple questions/comments: 1. It seems like this is somehow different than muting the convo. How? Does it physically remove any mention of you so even others don't see your username? 2. "Unmention" seems awkward copy. I wonder if "Remove yourself" is better?

or “remove mention” since I feel like it’ll still be able to technically have your name or handle but it won’t do the actual act of “mentioning”

Some meta-feedback: could you share these screenshots with alt text (or link to an in-depth text description of the features?) so that screen reader users can also participate in the conversation? Might be a useful design exercise, anyway!

This is great, and substantive progress, but genuinely the control I would like more than *anything* else is to reject a quote tweet or turn off the ability for someone to post a link to your tweet.

An incredibly common pattern on Twitter is someone quote-tweeting you exclusively to send people to harass you. This is particularly bad when people with hundreds of thousands or millions of followers decide to quote tweet you to send people to harass you.
