Further to my HDR rant, It just dawned on me that the people who wrote OpenColorIO and OpenImageIO were working for Sony at the time. And yet the Sony PS5 can't use any of these amazing tools to share a HDR screenshot. Left hand, talk to right hand.

2023 and I still can't take HDR screenshots on my PS5. Meanwhile OpenEXR was released to the public as open source two whole decades ago in 2003.

Another big revelation in the quest to visualize the proper amount of overscan for a given CRT. The equal percentage viewable area patterns many high-end monitors produce don't mark out a 4:3 area. That's obvious once the math sinks in, so I did a ton of photography...

I try not to rant about Twitter on Twitter, but these recent redesigns utterly suck. I've mostly dumped Instagram over non-linear timelines. Maybe it's time to go retro and just return to personal self-hosted blogs.

My #MiSTerFPGA adaptive scanline settings on my old Samsung 1080p HDTV compared to my Sony Trinitron CRT. 1920 pixels isn't enough resolution to split pixels in the same nb of horizontal dots you'd see on an aperture grille, but the effect on MiSTer is still really convincing!

These are AU$350 RRP, and that is utterly insane. I can buy an entire Ryzen based mini PC for that money.

First look at DualSense Edge for PlayStation 5. Stunning design and premium feel.

I feel quite fortunate to have met these two fine gentlemen through this hobby I love so much. Join and as they chat about CRTs, calibration, monoscope design, CRT photography and video challenges, and a bunch of other fascinating things.

I recently had a chat with @khmr33: Creator of the #240pTestSuite Monoscope pattern, professional photographer & follow CRT enthusiast. As always, these are available everywhere - Just search your favorite app for "RetroRGB Raney", or just click here: retrorgb.com/interview-with

If this thread upsets you, I strongly recommend the book "Bullshit Jobs" by David Graeber. It's probably the most honest look at the modern workplace ever written.

FWIW, I'm a GenXer, and very much a fan of the lessons I can learn from my elders, and think the future is in good hands with the youth. We really need to knock off the fighting between age groups. We may as well fight over horoscopes.

Well the good news is that the media has stopped shitting on Millennials for a minute. The bad news is that everything wrong with the world is now GenZ's fault, apparently. Will intergenerational warfare ever end?

OK, solved my RPi vkQuake problem. I'd forgotten how much I loved the raw visuals of this game. Dark, gritty textures, no filtering. Someone needs to do a brand new horror game on this engine.

I'm no doctor, but something doesn't look right with vkQuake on Raspberry Pi lately.

Thanks MAME for letting me play the games I lost from my childhood, even if they were a bit crap.

Thankful I bothered to write MAME Raspberry Pi cross-compile tools when I have access to hardware like this. 96 thread compiles are a whole lot better than 4.

The House of the Dead III did get a Wii release so playing the Xbox version with a Wii remote isn't a massive achievement, but I'm surprised Silent Scope didn't end up on the Wii as it seems a natural fit for the controller.

So I'm 4 films in, and Cage currently has 4 brand new films in post-production and is filming a fifth. At this rate I'm actually falling behind!

"New year's resolutions" are stupid, so I'm going to make one that's really stupid. In 2023 I will attempt to watch every single Nicholas Cage movie made. Checking the list now, I think I'm in with a chance. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicolas_C

This can be an inexpensive hobby if you're at the front of the curve. If you're going to wait for others to tell you what the current trend is, then I hope you've got a rich and generous parent.

Collect PS3 and Xbox360 games NOW. Don't make me dig up this tweet in 10 years and say I told you so. I used to collect 8/16 bit and early CD games by the dozen when people were throwing them out, including plenty of titles that fetch north of $200 each today.

Combing through the Magfest photos and saw this one pic to give you an idea of the pricing for game vendors There was also stuff like the $900 cart only web of fire, $1200 cart only ducktales 2 and $2500 sealed Pokémon Box Some crazy stuff there

Minor annoyance of the day: When I type "emulation" into my phone and it autocorrects to "emulsion". For all this "big tech spying on me" malarkey, they should know what I'm about.
