It's time to put an end to asset forfeiture. It surely must be unconstitutional.
-
It’s a clear violation of the fifth amendment: “No person shall … be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law …”

I don't think there a single thing about the US Police system that BOGGLES my mind quite as much as Asset Forfeiture. I could not believe it when I first read about it!

Abuse of civil asset forfeiture is widespread. There should be no permanent forfeiture without a corresponding criminal conviction. This would handle 90% of the problem
-
Forfeiture for criminal convictions would just mean more motivated criminal convictions. They'll steal however they can

The key words here are “no conviction required”. BS. Any assets obtained as a result of a crime are subject to forfeiture. If suspects are not convicted then they are innocent and the police are guilty of theft.
-
Not only is no conviction required, the police don't even have to arrest anyone. They don't even have to find any drugs.

This is not only pa. its every state. In a growing and disturbing trend among state and local police, some L.E. agencies now use contracts and waivers to obtain property, a practice that permits them to avoid forfeiture proceedings altogether.

Operations like these were often carried out by the Gestapo & NKVD/KGB. Agents deported or arrested ppl whose businesses, vehicles, apts, belongings & even spouses were handed out to friends & family. It's a disgusting, corrupt practice that has no place in a civilized country.
