Anyone notice how we don't call Islamic Terrorists "mentally ill" but people will insist that men like Alex Minassian must be mentally ill because it couldn't possibly be their hatred of women that drove them to commit mass murder?https://twitter.com/_celia_bedelia_/status/989126649147994113 …

Also, to the men in my mentions telling me Minassian had Asperger's or he had a "mental disability" - neither of those are MENTAL ILLNESSES. Neither of those are WHY he did what he did. He did what he did because he hated women.

I have a mental illness. I've grown up around mental illness. What you do when you put this on "mental illness" is 1) vilify mental illness & 2) ignore the underlying impact misogyny has on events like this. If you continue to ignore this, it will continue to happen

Question for you Celia: why do *you* think they are doing a psychological assessment on him?

-
yes, you're point that he must be mentally ill because it can't possibly be just misogyny.

It actually sounds as though he had Asperger's -https://www.yorkregion.com/news-story/8566082-update-alleged-attacker-alek-minassian-may-have-asperger-syndrome/ …

which is not a mental illness.

You're right, it's a developmental issue.
