Antony--this is a CA law--under $950 is a misdemeanor. Also, these crimes are being blown out of proportion by reactionary folks, focusing almost exclusively on the Tenderloin. I go from the inner sunset to the mission to the Excelsior & feel very safe & HAPPY to live here.

I don’t know the data on it, but I’ve personally seen quite a lot of crime and theft in stores, so it seems unlikely that it is rare. I’ve been attacked my addicts in Soma and financial this year, not just Tenderloin. And I’m a large male minding my own business.

Prop 47 changed the amount of theft that can prosecuted in 2014. Dunno what that has to do with Chesa, but okay.

Fair. I don’t know his stance on that explicitly, but he has made phrases along the lines of “bring me kilos not grams” or similar. That seems to be an endorsement for allowing small, frequent crimes.
