I’m not a skeptic of hiking poles like I am of hiking boots but I’m curious if any pre-industrial people use(d) them

I don’t get them. Every time I pass people using them I want to interrogate them about how they use them and what they’re good for. I think they’re mostly psychologically reassuring? Maybe there’s some practical use for wobbly people too. I feel freer without, though.

Boots, otoh: I used the heavy old kind for years. They were best for high scree slopes. Then my toenails fell off. Now I can’t use them. Every time I try, my toenails come loose again. I don’t miss them, tbh.

scree is the one place my minimal shoes slip but I haven’t had a hiking boot in decades so can’t remember if they’re better

I remember the grip being good. Slipping is the main problem I have with minimals too. I’ve done very little barefoot without minimals. I wonder if feet are less slippy on scree?
