I’ve been carrying these around for years because it’s easier to swap to an already existing SIM and local number then top up credit whenever I cross an international border, than buy and register a new one every time I land in another country.

The only country I’ve encountered that this doesn’t work for is the US. You have to get a new SIM every time around, which means another number. The US phone companies deregister the SIM and give your number to someone else once you stop buying credit.
