My lama used to call my habit with meditation having a style of "ethnic cleansing", as I was trying to eliminate each and every mind-movement indiscriminately. I don't do it any more; what a relief. Completely useless endeavour - I mean the "cleansing", not the meditation.

Essentially the instruction "lets go and let be" translated into "murder it with fire and fury" in my head.

Yes: ego-murder is valid and useful in Sutrayana derived practice, but it doesn’t work well in Vajrayana context.

I've taken to just observing the ego and letting it do what it wants as long as it's okay with being watched. No idea what kind of practice this is, I've ended up with some freeform mishmash of meditation styles and practices. :-)
