maybe a similar theme: Anne of Green Gables tourism is a thing. Almost entirely Japanese tourists doing it. What are some of the popular stories&myths from the West in China? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_of_Green_Gables#Tourism_and_merchandising …

I was thinking the presentation is myth-like. It’s more like Hollywood, stories about what you will do, rather than facts about what you’ll see. Maybe it’s different demographics targeted rather than cultures… I don’t know. Eg, this site, fairly typical: http://www.americaasia.com/Default.aspx?locale=en-US&RP=browse&catid=1 …

Myth about what you'll do: "luxurious elite guided tour to exclusive global attractions" Fact about what you'll see: "there are a lot of parking lots and gas stations. you will be lead around on foot following a minimum wage worker reading a script. exit through the gift shop."

Taipei is all about the food, if I am to believe all of the western travel bloggers. The fact that Taiwan avoided the Cultural Revolution and therefore has many aspects of Chinese culture better preserved get less deserved attention.
-
Interesting. Any links to good travel bloggers on Taiwan?
-
Mainly actually on YouTube. I'll send you some links later...

Logan Beck's channel is fairly well filmed, though he is a bit overtly enthusiastic to my taste:https://youtu.be/iiitHe9NoGk

Life in Taiwan has less stuff, but as a British person, does not cause mental diabetes:https://youtu.be/nKiFrbIKjFs

These are a few channels which I have actually watched more than once and found useful and informative.
