My wombat (Mr. George Wombiot) is hot stuff when it comes to programming. Sometimes when I’m stuck I factime David and he puts Mr. Wombiot on his shoulder and I talk them through my algorithms. I can tell how badly broken my code is by how big their eyes get.
Unfortunately I have to spend most of the year outside US, and my travel case is too small for wombats. But, yay tecnology.
I would only add to that article slightly - the best possible break to take is to sleep. A seemingly impossible problem can be close to effortless the next day. It's hard to have the discipline to break but "impossible" to "effortless" really is the level of difference I find.
That’s so true.
big fan of AoPS community and books. single-handedly responsible for getting me interested in mathematics! i wish i had access to these in high school.
Oh, that’s good to know. I hadn’t come across them before seeing this link.
I learned my C programming in a hard way: by implementing a CUDA C based GPU approach to a challenging numerical method. Learned many things; crazy in retrospective. Of course I had other programming background before. What kind of programming you are learning?
Wow yes, that sounds like a jump in at the deep end! I am learning Python and enjoying it. I learned Scheme previously, I think that helps a lot. I just completed the MIT 6.00.1 in CS and am revising for the exams. Think I will do 00.2 next, which is plotting & stuff.
Cool. Python is a fun language. I use it often. Today I have been doing some data analysis/visualisation with it yet again.
