I think astronomy demonstrates this interestingly. You have a visual sense: you look at something, although with a telescope. But also intelligence, i.e. data analysis, widens the range of what can be learned from a simple observation.

Yes. Sadly a common thing with so-called "spiritual" people - including a number of Buddhists. Meeting Buddhists and being a professional scientist can lead to weirdly dismissive social attitudes. Particularly with very Mahayoga-oriented people.

This is a 2+2 year contract. Fairly long as far as postdocs go.

I take your point & find it helpfully productive to appreciate mentation as another sense-faculty. But I'm reminded w "concept formation" that in Middle English- the language of the Western contemplative text The Cloud of Unknowing- the way one spelled "concept" was "conceit."
