Hey there, people who've followed me recently! I only know a handful of you (and then mostly from your blogs). If I don't know you, tell me something about yourself! How did you find me? What sorts of things do you care about? *cough* uhh, watcha following me for?

No, but that sounds great, and also like something in the small Venn diagram overlap of 'media my partner will like' (action movies, martial arts) and 'media I will like' (philosophy, metarationality), which makes me even more want to watch it.

Persevere with the beginning, it takes a little while to get into & appreciate, I think.

Yes! I love Choke. And yes you're right, it's a good portrait of the reflexive relationship between individuals and systems. One face of this is that RG is shaped by BJJ & yoga (and so on), which in turn has had a massive influence on the psycho-physical culture of MMA & BJJ.

Yes, I think that docu brings out the symbiotic individual - systems dynamic very well. He exemplifies the sensitivity & humility that comes from living and mastering a system. Also, he is sooo playful!

Yes, I saw it a long time ago. I remember Rickson doing breathing exercices on the beach. I can’t remember how the fights went though. Nor do I remember noticing the systems aspect. I should watch it again.

The fights were interesting, in particular, how he came across as patient/serene. Quite different demeanour than his opponents. Also he could’ve won the final much quicker by beating on the other guy’s already smashed face from a previous fight. But he said that would be mean.
