There's nothing wrong with you if you can't stand pair programming as a day-in-day-out approach to software development. I love the occasional pairing, but I'd rather quit programming than do it all day, every day.

I think design and arch should be collaborative, but implementation is best individually at first and then opened to critique at code review. This only works if you have a coherent design/arch plan.

For me the difference is that during programming you create the design. while playing violin you mostly practice playing and perfecting what has been designed for you. (Aka someone else created the play). In rock music a band cocreates the songs.

I think it’s pretty normal to perceive it like that... Unfortunately the „tech industry“ has decided to favour one very specific type of personality...

That doesn't sound stupid - I feel the same about it. And I don't come from an arts background, I'm a hardcore nerd since as long as I can remember (started coding age 9 or so). I like peering occasionally (share the craft / learn from/with others). Always? Heck Nooooo.

Before I became a programmer, I was a jazz musician and songwriter and I spent 99% of my craft alone, with the perfect environment for thinking. Programming was the perfect transition for me... until I got A job that requires full time pair programming. :(

True! And I found myself pair up virtually and asynchronously with random strangers on stack overflow anyway.
