    Today the last arch specific assembler changes were merged into so that CRIU is now using clone3() with set_tid to create processes with a certain PID on all supported architectures in the criu-dev branch. Thanks to everyone involved!

    CRIU can be really useful for essentially snapshotting the state of a container and resuming it. This can be great for things like Databases or Java workloads with cache-warming requirements - Container migration with Podman on RHEL

    Scary question: how is vdso supposed to work at all with checkpoint/resume functionality? The code in the vdso functions has to match the data page the kernel provides, but the addresses in it are already bound in the application, and task might even be suspended in vdso code...
