I apologise if I have misunderstood. Isn’t it the convention for the fiancé to give a ring to his fiancée? In this event, would you not have any need to melt any jewellery to create a ring?

Diamonds are expensive, so my mother gave me hers (also my great grandmas). However the setting was damaged and unrepairable, so we re-set the diamond.

my wife demanded a new mbp over a ring at the time, and laughed at anyone who was incredulous
-
assuming this was the 2015 or earlier mbp, I completely agree with her choice

My mother said that if he didn’t buy me a big ring it meant he didn’t love me! Even though I never ever wear rings and still don’t. That, among other things, meant she was not at my wedding.

oh no, I'm so sorry

It’s interesting people gave your husband shit about it. I also didn’t want one, but when we told our friends we’d gotten engaged they’d ask to see my ring and roll their eyes at ME when I said I didnt want one. After a week of that I felt weird and judged and we bought one.
-
They rolled their eyes at me too, but were actively insulting him... Calling him a cheapskate, saying he wasn't really committed. Sorry you got shamed into buying a ring! Did you end up wearing it long term?

Didn’t really care for a ring, got one off of Etsy for $80. Wore it for about a year, it’s been in my jewelry box since then. I think I’m just not a ring person? Plus we were saving for a house at the time and putting me through night school. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
-
We also completely skipped getting him a wedding band since he hates jewelry. People are weird about that, too.
