My new pet peeve: When I refund customers their money they consistently miss the MINUS symbol (refund) on their card statement and think instead I charged them again and start emailing/tweeting/Medium-posting angrily that I'm charging them again Never B2C again

Interesting — Can you change the label that appears on the bank statement to say REFUND in all caps? I think I’ve seen that from some merchants.

That'd be nice but I don't think that's possible with Stripe, is it possible to use "statement_descriptor" with ->refund()? @tarstarr

Here's how refunds look, I agree it looks confusing. Maybe it should say REFUND: in descriptor I thinkpic.twitter.com/Dc3Ou4kwBg

A customer of mine had the same problem, and they are trying out refund via bank transfer instead to make it clearer.

Refunding credit card charges by bank transfer is a terrible idea because the customer could still dispute the credit card charge and then the merchant is out twice the amount. In fact, this is a common scam.

Also regulatory issues involved with sending money this way. At that point the [refund] transaction isn’t associated with the original payment so it’s seen as simply sending funds to someone (and depending on locale, subject to KYC/sanctions screening, etc).
