maybe this is weird timing, but anyone have any questions about like- art, concept art, game industry, etc? I feel like with all the school discourse, it's good to sometimes be explicitly open to questions, esp for those who can't even dream of going to art school, too

How important is consistent style? I hate having to stick to one style but it's necessary for freelance illustration. Do you need your work to look consistent when applying for concept or asset work?

depends. I interviewed at Blizzard and the interviewer brought up they thought my work was a little too "disney". Another studio said the same thing (despite all the Halo work in my portfolio). But that same variety is what a lot of employers like about my stuff!

I wish I had a better answer. Keep your portfolio segmented so sci-fi people don't see the stylized stuff unless they ask, etc.

this is an interesting question, since zero concept art will actually make it into the game--everything we design gets translated through 3D artists & if there's a style inconsistency, the 3D artists can fix it (depending on the studio). I think genre is more important than style
