And that isn’t to dismiss fan art or modding or even copying as practice or to learn a it’s just I can’t see putting this much work into someone else’s world that you have no control or rights on.

Fanwork & modding is a great way to practice creativity using a world with pre-made rules & assets, like building with legos. But at some point, you've gotta feel the limitation of those legos and try building on your own.
