The monomyth is not 100% linear and doesn't always play nice with 3-act structure, which Vogler tried to fit it all into. (If you find Cambell's work too academic, Vogler's work may be more approachable)...

Also I highly recommend that everyone read Save the Cat before diving into any plot structure nonsense.
