O man, I could write a thesis-length explanation, but sadly I don't think there's a lot of articles or chat out there about this? I couldn't find anything, it's something that isn't talked about often because it gets tricky and people's definition of 'illustration' is so loose--

--essentially concept art is the stuff that feeds the game/product pipeline by giving 3D modelers & animators design sheets to build assets from. Illustrations are 'prettier', time-intensive, & usually made to sell a game/product--

--Concept art usually comes into the pipeline during pre-production/production, & Illustration happens end of production/post-production. If you take Magic the Gathering, for example, the card art are all illustrations based off of R&D concept art generated in-house for the sets
