Hence the focus on collecting, cross-checking & verifying objective data through measurements, rather than opinions, beliefshttps://twitter.com/learning20201/status/1259732554573373440 …

Measurement still needs definitions and isn't a values-free process imo.

True Still, aspire getting closer to objectivity New data, known to be accurate, which breaks say, known laws of physics, can be welcomed for funding new studies, theories...

The base of known laws, formulae, pegged at different accuracy ratings based how how hard or soft the underlying science is, need to be constantly verified and outliers need to be inspected and studies.

This is getting me thinking uncontextualized knowledge ISNT value, it's an intermediate step. This is probably why hedge funds have analystists, b.c. knowledge contextualization is highly divergent in terms of interpretations and applications.

Yup, sense-making from raw data is hard. Needs domain expertise.

Total aside I spend a lot of time think of about crypto currencies and I absolutely love to nerd out about the speculative edges of adjacent technology and design.

Spent*, I enjoy threads like these but havent recently. Most people only looking at bitcoin, ethereum, space is wide open for community currencies with the purpose of allowing communities to bootstrap economic self determination. But that's a whole other soap box.

But the latter is clearly the driving factor for the most earnest techies in the field, no? Real democracy, autonomy, power to the people, progress, prosperity for all

I think so but most techies are pretty alienated from atoms, small business, and those who aren't sophisticated financially or technologically which is where community currencies could help most imo. So it boils down probably a problem of not understanding users!

Hard Tech problems are actually solved for real I think. Next step is trying to package it for actual communities to use. Which looks like incentive design/economic system design, marketing, messaging, literal door to door community building. Very different process.

There are always the paradoxical ones, but yes Hard Tech has developed much further than its real world everyday applications... But that lag is necessary, can't build without a foundation in place
