Suppose, hypothetically, someone who is definitely not a genie or trickster god, had a thoroughly bottle up anger problem that they would like to be able to release in a controlled and safe manner in order to get a healthier relationship with the emotion, what would you suggest?

This is likely limited by lockdown, but my suggestion would be to find a very good somatic experiencing therapist and work with them. This is pretty much their bread and butter, and they will make you very comfortable with it eventually.

Trying to self-therapy this can resemble alternately letting it out and clamping it down, while they’ll help with taking baby steps into it that your whole system can get comfortable with.

One of the things I am concerned about is that if I let it out I won't be able to clamp it back down.

I'd highlight looking at fear of anger. Some questions to offer youself. Where did you get your perceptions of anger? What was your family's relationship to anger? Is there some emotional stance you learned early on that helped u cope with anger in self or other?

Questions inspired by doing my own self reprogramming around not being able to approach (only watch) and having confidence in my own voice and ability.
