Briefly considered going back to school to get a masters in cognitive neuroscience but looked up industry salaries for that degree and decided to just skip it and do whatever research I feel like self-directed

the biggest is literal value. a master's degree costs money. a PhD is not only free, i am being paid $31k a year to pursue it. second biggest is that the work that goes into a PhD thesis is a much better learning opportunity than the work that goes into masters lvl coursework

seems like the opportunity for deep learning + mentorship + duration is only available in PhD programs.
