Hello weird meditation twitter- wondering if you can point me in the direction of info regarding 'internal illumination' (as in, light generated internally- experienced as coming from behind the eyes, not from outside them, filtering thru the eyelids- mine tend to flicker)

there are grades of internal illumination W Britton https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3879457/ … as a meditation object a stabilized nimitta, mind-generated sensation, can serve as an entrance to nimitta Jhanas

seeking the light is the surest way to lose it my interpretation is seeking the light, evokes an I-It relationship which cognitive. either cognitive activation is somehow inhibitory or stabilizing the light requires single-pointed/unsplit direction of mental resources

'seeking' as in 'thirst for it' and 'pursuing it' when it starts to come up. you can definitely setup conditions for it to arise it intentionally

gotcha. in my case i think its just plain excitement at the novelty of it that is difficult to work with (i.e it disappears the phenomena) so understanding it a bit may help

Right now I'm working with model that 1st Jhana, with the factor piti, aka meditative joy *is* the joy of seeking, as the plain excitement of novelty.

And this makes sense from the neuroanatomical and neurobehavioral studies on rats and the subjective accounts from deep brain stimulation of SEEKING emotional system neural correlates (J Panksepp).
