A funny joke to play on that part of your self-system: turn it into an object of meditation. First stabilize. Then do some insight-type practices. And then for the real sneaky, dirty trick, for added lulz: hit it w/ some compassion

It's very binary (connected/not connected) and overwhelming to the point of autonomic gagging! It is very effective at getting away from awareness (reminds me of depression and just wanting to be left alone).
