All unconscious blocks that hamper the spirit have two aspects: 1. You do not have a thing and must get it. 2. Not having this thing is causing the block. In reality: 1. You have the thing already. 2. By seeking, you are causing the block.

i mean the seeking grasping is just such a strong component of my sitting that it has hindered my practice of the jhanas, recent realizations

yeah exactly, part of successful jhana practice i'm understanding is realizing not-doing because there is inherent capacity is the way, rather than trying to do which is a bad frame and makes it impossible
