trying to get my terminology in line with what is accepted: spigot stud - has screw 1/4" or 3/8" thread for mounting photography equipment. also can fit into a socket for quick swapping socket/reciever - has a hand turnable screw that clamps onto the spigot stud

and just to be very clear our two pictures are of spigot stud/receiver systems, obviously not the same parts but they should work the same. mine fits snug, i don't know what to suggest if your's doesn't
