We all seek pleasureful experience
The joy from stillness and meditation...that smile, that smirk...
...in the nothingness that joy spontaneously pervades, what do we do with that?
Is this seeking too? What if it is spontaneous and non-intentional?

septal area is responsible for the most desirable self stimulation- it's intensely pleasurable and has a sexual flavor (there were some human electrode studies)

the lateral hypothalamic corridor is distinct from the septal area, is also a site of self stimulation, and responds unconditionally to bodily need state. it's the neuroanatomy that Panksepp's SEEKING system is concentrated in it's responsible for anticipation of reward

there maybe other pleasure systems i am not familiar with but there is neuroanatomical basis for pleasure to arise independently of activity of SEEKING

Do you think we can transcend this pleasure in our practice as we transcend suffering or desire?

i don't know if seeking (lower case here because it's outside of a scientific context) ends, I know I have not fully investigated: i still get a sense of seeking for the stream of experience and a sense it maybe extra seeking maybe also what is referred to as tanha

i've greatly reduced grosser seeking/thirst/motivated interest, so i know this is a dimension it maybe possible to move further along

i don't think it's possible to transcend hedonic tone i think it's possible to transcend attachment to, seeking of, hedonic tone

Can you expand on why you dont think it's possible to transcend hedonistic tone? Initial reaction, I feel like I disagree.

by transcend hedonic tone i would mean, the end of perceptions of pleasurable, neutral, displeasurable i think they are too tied in with basic perception but i've transformed sever pain which I wanted to end into... still unpleasant but something which I'd surrendered to

i imagine it's possible to enter a pleasure jhana inspite of intense pain too, i don't count this as transcending hedonic tone, maybe declawing of it

Hmmmm. Must do more meditation Transcendence of pain and pleasure distinctions. Dispassionate viewing of stimulus. Complete non-judgement and observation What is beyond? What remains when distinction is erased? Value of total passive observation? I posit control. Not there yet

"passive observation" Attention invested in awareness without the "attachment" and resulting identification with the object of awareness.
