I want to be part of communities where all behaved as if there was a code of conduct but am turned off by communities where a code of conduct is necessary.

I'm involved in face to face communities where one can get the vibe. Communities relying on a document for conduct enforcement are probably trying to scale more publicly and this is a sign of impending vibe collapse or that it's already gone.

I’m not sure it’s that specific? I think it makes sense to want everyone to be well-behaved, but if there needs to be an authority enforcing the good behaviour that means that the community naturally tends towards bad behaviour, and I wouldn’t want that either
