Does anyone else get repulsed by the phrase “I’m proud of you” even when it’s meant well? I certainly do and I even consider it a tiny red flag. Like not horrible alone if all else is well but not a great sign.

Oof. I have used this recently. I hope is hasn't been interpreted in some of the ways mentioned but I see how it could have been. I think what I mean to express is closer to sympathetic joy, which "I'm happy for you" does just fine.
