In my lifetime in America, I've never experienced a large scale shortage of a necessary good. This is crazy. Current surplus is so high I can barely imagine what actual scarcity would look like.

To answer my own question, grew up in US, besides growing up lower middle class I haven't experienced shortage. My grandparents dodged famine of the great leap forward.

Grateful we dodged that level of trauma. Growing up kinda poor left enough stuff I've had to work through.
