As budgets approach infinity, the intelligence needed to understand the film approaches zero. When making a micro-budget film, it can be as convoluted and hard to follow as you like. When making a $200M movie, everyone should be able to explain the film after watching it.
i said 'one' but there were really two ideas that you mentioned. also there were more than two ideas in last jedi. OP's point is simplicity makes for great blockbusters, LJ is not simple/elegant. Also, how dare you blow off Finn, Rose, Leia, Snoke, Holdo, Hux, Kylo, Poe...

Finn learns commitment, Rose teaches loyalty, Leia & Holdo teach leadership, Poe learns how to be responsible instead of being reckless with lives. Having many character arcs doesn't make a movie complicated, especially when love, loyalty, and redemption are the common factors

Can you untag me? I have zero emotional attachment to the Star Wars franchise & don't need to be a part of an argument about the relative plot complexity of a movie I will never see.
