@Evolving_Ego what if an ability to polarize is also an ability to create tribe whereas reasonableness does not lend to tribe creation?
Which is a damn shame. Feels like fighting gravity. People centrifuge apart except where there is perceived threat. Just on my stream of consciousness late-night twitter game. Seemed relevant to your interests.

Maybe a resolution for a reasonable person who also wants effectiveness: be privately reasonable and public polarizing. Also choose your fault-line of polarization carefully so when the message gets simplified for mass transmission, it minimizes suffering.

Private reasonability is still useful for thinking through things and getting close to a ground reality that will work. Maybe useful for collaboratively choosing the fault-line and for internal conversation with allies or potential allies before broadcast.

Somewhat related, a positive formulation of polarization would be grand strategy, which I think about as broad language, that is simple, shapes long term action, unfolds when you look at it and discuss it. Good strategy is good branding is sticky is grokkable at many levels.

Relating polarization to human cognition. It looks like the equivalent of attention. It's subject-object, has motivation baked in, as this differentiation inherently does, and you either move toward or move away.
