My heart is bursting. On the eve of my first child's birth, my dad - who's been in prison nearly my entire life - was granted clemency. He never intended harm, yet his crime devastated many families. My heart breaks for the families that can never get their loved ones back.

The three people your father helped murder when he was a leader in a communist terrorist group never got to see or hear their loved ones again.

Do you think people can be redeemed or change? I'm not sure what the point of a prison system is if we can't at least make good effort at allowing people chances at new beginnings.

You have to believe that people can change, redeem themselves, who you are 10 years ago can be vastly different than the present.Saying that though, families are still hurting and angry, why put the tweet out on such a touchy subject? Knowing the responses he’d get, what’s the point?
