I've always believed in speaking up for those who can't speak for themselves. The earth and the animals are no exception to that. SAVE THE PLANET!
(Also kind people, if you don't have any Muslim friends, you do now. follow me. Stop the stereotyping & the hate. Oneness

This is a beach in the Dominican Republic. How Outrageous is this?! And how sad to see! This is serious and we need to get it together. THIS IS OUR WATER THAT IS BEING POISONED! There is no LIFE without WATER.pic.twitter.com/xEcqLmsfFx

That's a great machine, but we need to replace plastic with other materials or compostable bioplastics wherever it is possible.
-
I think both ideas are worthwhile. Love the idea of bioplastics, composting farms, etc. This tech has some interesting versatility, too.
-
We definitely need to clean up the mess also.
-
Definitely. I think this kind vessel could perform various functions. Lake, river and ocean, cleanup and monitoring. It's necessary.
-
Sadly it will not work in the ocean. It requires water with very little waves to function correctly.
-
https://www.theoceancleanup.com Luckily they are already working on technology that is capable of cleaning up plastic in oceans
-
Yes I have seen that. It looks very promising. I also saw the "Trash Island" when I was in the Navy. Sad then and it was a lot smaller than it is now.

It's a good idea + it will help, but we also need to stop creating all that waste and dumping it in the first place. The root causes, are what require the most attention.
-
Exactly. Stop using as much plastic and stop throwing any you do use away as litter. Refuse, reduce, reuse and recycle
. -
Most of the large plastic waste in the oceans comes from a handful of countries. Need an immediate ban on shipping plastic waste to them! (Tech will be needed for microplastics)
-
That’s an idea...

This is a necessary fix, but where are they going to put all that plastic? There's nowhere safe to put toxic material that never biodegrades. They have to burn it in Asia or stick it in a landfill, in both cases creating massive toxic pollution of the air/soil/groundwater.
-
A good deal will be recyclable. If not, Holland is trialling plastic as a road covering, making modular road sections that can be replaced and repaired easily.
-
That's nice but be extremely wary of any "solution" that involves using more plastic. The No 1 proponent of recycling is the Plastic Lobby (American Chemistry Council), so they can pretend it's fine and keep producing more. We have to REPLACE & REDUCE as much plastic as possible.
-
I'm currently working in Malawi. Here there is a huge culture of reusing plastic bags and bottles. We're trying to encourage local food outlets to move to paper straws and to get people to take their own boxes to buy take away food. It's a slow process, but it's moving
-
we need to get rid of plastic bottles entirely, there is absolutely no reason why they should exist. steel water bottles last forever and can be refilled -- there should be a fresh-water dispenser on every corner, the same way there used to be a phone booth on every corner
-
Steel rusts, glass is the way.
-
My stainless steel Swiss Army water bottle is flawless after 10 years and has never rusted a drop. This article explains maybe why.
But any natural material is infinitely better than any iteration of any kind of plastic.https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/why-doesnt-stainless-stee/ … -
Yes, granted, SSteel a one off production but expensive. I reminisce from childhood when fizzy pop and milk was in glass & your responsibility to return the empty with a deposit returned for the next. Maybe we've all got a little too greedy for cheap.
