Admittedly it’s just trading one trope for another, but it’s a start. 
Agreed! the trope of “this entire race is evil” was always kind of lazy storytelling and Im onboard for the flexibility this bring. Besides, I always thought of Orcs were more interesting if interpreted as big, happy, green Klingons instead of dungeon fodder.
