looking at #GameDevPaidMe, it's outright appalling how much less we pay artists than engineers for positions. it's inexcusable, and continues to feed toxic narratives that value engineering over art

engineering as a field in general is a lot harder to do. It requires technical education, most times at a university, and for the most part, IS more value than "art"
Hard disagree. I think you’re confusing DeviantArt hobbyists with highly trained professionals in game dev. I would throw the tens of thousands of hours we put in mastering a dozen different technical software platforms against the coding experience of engineers any day.
